Francois Andre Michaux collection

The papers consist of 31 "Proof Prints of Michaw's Arbres Forestiers de l'Amerique," 1810-13, an original drawing of the Norway Maple and a specimen packet cover which accompanied Michaux' herbarium specimens, of 1785-87.

Helen E. Wilson sketches and drawings

Scope and Contents

These drawings are all in pencil, fifteen of them signed "H. E. Wilson" or "H. E. W." The series consists of two landscapes, four portraits and nine flower pictures, some with butterflies included in the composition. Two additional sketches are signed "Mary Loydn and =Joanna M. Taylor" respectively. Included with the materials are two small school drawing books, German editions of William Hermes, which have been autographed "To Arthur Chillas from Richard."

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of illustations inlcuding watercolor paintings and line drawings of plants, the bulk of which are reproduced in the The Plants of Southern New Jersey ; with Especial Reference to the Flora of the Pine Barrens and the Geographic Distribution of the Species (1911) and A Flora of Chester County Pennsylvania (1945). Also included is correspondence with the Academy of Natural Sciences concerning the publication of Flora of Chester County.

Jeanne Russell Janish Drawings of Scrophulariaceae

Scope and Contents Mrs. Janish drew the figures for Leroy Abrams' "Illustrated Flora of the Pacific States," vol. 3, 1951 in which F.W. Pennell's text on the Scrophulariaceae was incorporated. Because Pennell liked the drawings which Mrs. Janish prepared for him then, he engaged her to draw the figures of the plants of that family for his proposed work on the monograph of western Scrophulariaceae which was never published. Scope and Contents

The Lewis David von Schweinitz Drawings collection contains original illustrations of fungi and higher plants in four bound volumes and a number of loose plates. The bound works, volumes 1, 2, 3, and 5 of Fungorum Nieskiensium are organized by volume number and illustrate various fungi. The loose plates include fungi of Salem, North Carolina, but mainly illustrations of specimens identified as 'higher plants.'

Manuel Eyre Collection of Paintings of Chinese Plants, Animals, Insects and Birds

Scope and Contents Chinese paintings done in pure tempora colors, bound in two volumes of 118 and 141 pages respectively. The first volume contains 77 botanical plates while the second has 20 plates of mammals, 23 of insects and 28 of birds. Mathias Kin, Drawings

Scope and Contents Supposedly born in Germany, with headquarters in Germantown, Pa., from whence he journeyed over the eastern United States in search of new plants and seeds. These he shipped to parties in Germany. His birth date is not known, though Henry Muhlenberg's reference to him in 1812 indicates he was then in middle life. These papers consist of (a) diary and illustrated field notebook of a trip through Texas in 1884 (b) a sketchbook of 60 drawings in pencil, of insects, spiders and plants with descriptive field notes 1897-1912 (c) text with pen and ink drawings of chapters, 1, 4, 8, and 9 of a projected popular work entitled, YMany Legs and Wings" and (d) a collection of 11 letters written between 1882 and 1919, all signed by Aaron.
